Book 9:
Carrie Cockroach listened carefully as her dad Cory talked. He was telling her about the dusty old medal hanging on the wall, that belonged to her far off ancestor, Charles Cockroach.
“Charles lived in a time when Bugtown was Bug-Ville and ruled by King and Queen snake. They were bad rulers and ate the bugs that tried to get them to be fair.
Charles family was very poor, but the Snakes didn't care. They still tried to make him pay taxes, and soon, Charles family didn’t have any food.
One night when Charles was laying in bed, hungry, he had an idea. He decided to stop the Snakes. He collected a small amount of food and set off on his adventure.
Charles wrote a note so his parents would know where he was, then started walking towards the giant castle that the Snakes lived in. He decided to sneak attack them at night, so that he could teach them a lesson.
It took him a while to get to the castle, but when he got there he was angry. He had forgotten about getting in! He sat there trying to think of how he could get in until a guard came.
"Move along bug." George Guard said. Charles apologized quickly but didn't know where George had come from. He looked where the guard was walking away from, and knew how he would get in.
He picked up a heavy rock and hit George on the head. He fell down and Charles was able to take his uniform. Very quietly, Charles snuck in the Guards entrance.
Quickly and quietly, Charles crept down the halls of the castle and to the Royal chamber. He took out the sword he got from the Guard and ran out into the middle of the room.
“Surrender Snakes!” He called out. But, he was shocked to find that the King and Queen weren’t alone! Their Evil Sorcerer Samuel the Spider was there too! He saw Charles and started waving his wand.
A magic orb flew at Charles and he ducked away. It hit a pot behind him and made it a cup! It would not be good for Charles to be hit, so he ran around the room, just barely avoiding the orbs.
Suddenly, Charles dodged out of the way and it hit the Snakes! They transformed into harmless June-Bugs. They couldn’t eat any bugs now.
Later that day, the town rejoiced at their new freedom. The castle was opened and there was a feast of all the extra food the Snakes had been hiding. Charles was given a medal for being so brave and saving Bug-ville.
And that is where the medal came from.” Cory finished. Carrie would have been amazed, if she hadn’t fallen asleep on the couch. Cory picked her up and carried her to her room with a smile on his face.
