Here is another book, again, not copying some major pre-existing story.
Book 11:
Ellie Earthworm examined the body, then shivered and called over her partner Bruce Beetle. She reported. “Looks like he was drowned first, then eaten by… a...a… a huge beast." She turned the worm over, looking for more evidence.
"Oh my gosh!" Ellie cried out. "Bruce! This worm was actually murdered!" The local officer Pat Pillbug gasped as he watched Ellie. Strangely, he didn’t want their help. Bruce ignored him and came here anyway when they got a call of several murders and a stabbing.
Ellie let the coroner take the worm’s body away, and got in her car. They began driving over to a butterfly’s house. “Why didn’t Pat want us here?” She asked. This is the 4th victim! He obviously can’t do his job.”
“I don’t know, Ellie. But I don’t like the look of this. Who would stab the poor worm? Is he somehow related to the other 3?” They drove the rest of the way in silence.
When they got to the house, a shaky butterfly quickly let them in. “Yes, I was the one who called you. It was my sister!” And she burst into tears. They went inside to question her more.
After calming her, they managed to find out that her sister was stabbed. She also told them the names of the 3 dead bugs and which hospital the stabbing victims are in. They left Beth, shaky and sad, promising to avenge her sister.
They drove to the hospital in silence, confused by this case. Their confusion became even worse when nobody would let them in. They had to force bugs around and show their badges. Even then, the dragonfly doctor refused to talk to them.
Ellie yelled at him. “Sir, if something is happening here, the police have a right to know!” but he just slammed his office door on them and began talking on the phone. “Something fishy is going on here, Bruce, and I don’t like it.”
They left, Bruce and Ellie grumbling to themselves. Ellie was about to say something when they heard a scream. “Quickly!” Bruce shouted, “It’s coming from that bank!” And they ran towards the sound.
The scene was gruesome. A strange bug chanted over a shaking Beetle. Ellie yelled at them, and the bug dropped its knife. Angry, he turned around and ran away. Ellie chased after him, with Bruce panting behind.
The bug reached a pond, but did not stop. He began chanting again and ran right onto the surface of the water. Ellie gasped and paused, unable to follow. Instead, she took out her gun and threatened to shoot.
The bug kept running, and began chanting louder. Ellie fired her gun, hitting him right in the back. It slowly sank, then disappeared. Ellie was about to sigh, but a giant beast suddenly leapt out of the water, caught the bug in it’s mouth, and disappeared beneath the surface.
“I can’t believe we saw a skater bug!” Bruce started to say, but Ellie glared at him. She replied: “Bugs can’t walk on water! It’s probably just an elaborate hoax! He obviously is obsessed with the idea of the fish gods, and created an entire scene to satisfy his ideas.”
Bruce got angry. “Why can’t you just believe?!?!? How do you know that anything is real?!?” He yelled. “Fine. Lets just go back to Washington. We need to report this crazy ‘hoax’.” And so they drove back in silence, wondering how much of their life was real.
