Stuck Fish

Stuck
Jake Swartwout

A large class of fish,
trapped under some rock.
Their tails stuck under stones,
to my greatest shock.

I took up a boulder,
and knocked a fish free.
He immediately fled,
from the trap and from me.

So again did I heave,
a lift and a shove.
But to find the fish helping,
and helping with love.

Together we moved it,
the stone flew in the air.
It knocked free another fish,
out of that horrible lair.

Now with two fish helping,
we soon freed a third.
It even attracted,
the help of a bird.

Now the 5 us split,
the bird went with me.
I found more boulders,
by a large round tree.

Together we freed them,
at double the pace.
There were little fish left,
in that horrible place.

And at last,
they were free.
And gone,
from that horrible place.
