Book 8: Molly’s Election
Election time was coming again, and Molly Moth was nervous. This year, Sam was running for mayor, and Molly might not get re-elected! Sam would not be a good mayor.
She decided to make a sign so that the bugs would vote for her. She drew it on the ground and had Al ant make sure it looked good. Then, Lisa came by.
Lisa was looking for Al, when she saw Molly drawing for him. She thought Molly wanted to marry Al, because they were in love before she married Al. She ran away to tell the town.
The next day, it rained. When it stopped, everyone came out and gossiped about Molly and Al. When they tried to tell the town and show them the sign, the sign was ruined and the town didn't believe them.
Sam calmed the town and then told them lies about fixing the town. The town was so shocked by Molly, that they believed him.
So, on election day, the votes were counted. Everyone but Al wanted Sam for mayor. Molly cried as she cleaned out her office.
The next day, the town found something startling. There was a web in central park! Sam had spun it and was relaxing inside it. Flynn Fly thought that the mayor of Bugtown should set good examples. Not bad ones!
Secretary Sally Snail needed Sam to sign some papers. But, when she tried to get close, she got caught in a web. Sally squirmed around while Sam laughed at her until she broke free and left.
The town started thinking that this was really bad. Sam was a horrible mayor! They wanted Molly back! They swarmed over to her house and tried to get her to come out.
But, Molly said no. “Sam is mayor now and there is nothing we can do that isn’t illegal.”
But there was something! For when the townsfolk were gone, Sam took the fountain in center park! He stole it and hid it in his house! Now he would be in trouble!
Pat Pillbug saw Sam steal the fountain and so did Scott Slug. Gary grasshopper found the fountain in Sam’s house, and now the town was sure it was Sam.
Pat Pillbug got out his book of bugtown rules to see what would happen. “In Book 18, Section 5, Part D, Chapter 9, Page 16, and paragraph 19, it says: ‘If a spider mayor builds a web in central park and steals the fountain, then the old mayor gets their job back and the spider mayor is fired.’”
The crowd cheered for Molly! They took Sam’s 'Mayor Hat' and put it back on Molly. Over the next few days, everything returned to normal. Sally got her paper signed, the web was cleaned up, and the fountain was returned.
