Paper Hearts

1st Draft - February 12th, 2016

I saw it while walking through the forest. First one, then another. Little hearts stuck to the trees. I found one that had fallen to the ground, and picked it up. It said: Paul. I didn't know who he was, but I stuck the heart back onto the tree. As I walked farther and farther, I began to see many more fallen hearts. Each had its own name, Sally or Dave or Ben. I tried to put them back up, but many were too dirty to stick. I could see an another man doing the same, but he was moving slower. Hearts began falling on my head as I walked deeper into the forest. It was raining hearts now. The trees towered above me, thousands of hearts hanging on their bending limbs. Behind me, a tree creaked and moaned. I watched as another heart was blown onto the tree. *CRASH*. I cried for the fallen tree. The hearts flew around me, and I couldn’t see anything. I heard another tree fall. I tried to grab a heart, to save something from destruction. When the hearts slowed down, I only had one left in my hand. It had my name on it. Now, many men and women and kids like me came through the forest. Each picked up their heart and continued on. My mom grabbed my hand and we walked with them.
