Book 7: Brent’s Decision

Handsome Brent Bumblebee stepped out of his new house. He and his family had just moved here and he was afraid. There was even a graveyard right across the street! This was a really strange town.

Luckily, his old friend Cathy Caterpillar was moving here too. Their dads both worked at the same place, so both of them had to move here. He hoped this would help them be friends again.

Early the next morning, Brent had to go to his new school. He sat in his seat and watched the bugs come in, until the beautiful Monica Mosquito came in. Brent’s jaw dropped, and he instantly fell in love.

The praying-mantis beside him noticed Brent staring, and gave a warning. "She is a dangerous bug. She was found around the house where a guy had his blood sucked. Monica and her brother Sam skip school a lot too. They usually come out at night and just buzz around the dark streets of Bugtown"

Brent was interested. This mosquito family sounded like they had something to hide. So, he hung around after school to wait for Monica to come out. It wasn’t until sunset that she came out.

He snuck out of his hiding spot and followed Monica down the road. Soon though, the road Monica was walking along became a trail through the forest.

Suddenly, Monica disappeared. Brent looked all around for her, but could only see a bunch of trees. Soon, the path disappeared  and he couldn’t find his way out. Abandoned out in the woods, he heard laughter from somewhere, and began shivering.

Then, out of nowhere, a blur. Moving straight at him, faster than he thought possible. Another blur came too, but this one hit the first one, saving Brent. The blurs began fighting, moving so fast, Brent didn’t know what was happening. Brent ran back home.

Later that day, Cathy came and talked to him. “What were you doing in the forest that night? She would have killed you! Then, you would have had your blood drained and your body hidden! Don’t ever do that again!”

Brent was confused by her shouting, but slowly pieced it together. Cathy was that second blur that saved him! The first one must have been Monica, angry about being followed. Cathy saved him. She was a hero. He leaned in… and kissed her.

Brent spent the rest of the night with Cathy. They laughed, and had fun, and he realized he really like Cathy. Soon, it got dark and he started heading home.

He got in his house and went up to his room. But... on his bed... it was Monica! His mouth dropped open. How did she get in?!? And why is she so pretty? Monica came and kissed Brent, stunning him with her looks. He couldn’t move. Monica moved closer, and bit him.

Brent screamed and pushed Monica away. The blood started flowing out of his neck. Monica was thrown against the wall, and a shelf fell on her. With a bruised wing, she jumped out the window and flew away into the night. Brent yelled at her to never come back.

Cathy rushed in and saw what happened. Brent hugged her. He knew she was so much better than Monica. He took one last look out the window at the evil mosquito flying away, then left with Cathy.
