Bug Adventures: Book 6: Pat's Investigation

Book 6: Pat’s Investigation
A long shadow fell across Pat’s window. He peeked outside to see what it was, but everything looked normal. He had recently been told that all of the major political figures have been going missing!
First, inspector Gary Grasshopper went missing. Next, Gus the Guard. And now, Mayor Molly Moth is nowhere to be seen!
Pat put on his coat and picked up his papers. He realized that either him or judge Judy would be the next to be kidnapped; they were the last political people left! As he opened the door, it banged into something. As if… someone was hiding and waiting.
Pat rolled out to his car as fast as he could. He had to go see Judge Judy Junebug! They had to protect each other from this mysterious killer.
In his car and on the way there, something jumped across the road. He swerved out of the way, barely missing the shadow. His tires screeched, and his car banged into the railing, almost knocking him off the road.
Quickly, he pulled the steering wheel the right way and drove along the road, much faster than before. In only an instant, he reached Judy’s house.
He looked inside and noticed something strange… Judy lived alone, but… there were two moving shadows. One moving around a room, and another moving towards the first. It must be the killer!
As quick as he could, Pat broke down Judy’s door and ran towards the moving shadow. He heard Judy scream.
Pat changed courses and headed towards the scream. But he was too late. Judy lay on the ground, one of her antenna broken, a knife in her leg. Pat bent down and started helping her the best he could.
Later, an ambulance rushed Judy to the hospital. The doctors said that she would be safe there and make a full recovery. Pat only half listened, as he was paying attention to a mysterious rustling in the nearby tree.
As he turned away, he just barely caught something jumping down and scurrying away down the street. Quickly, he apologized to the doctor and rushed after what he thought was the murderer.
He chased them down to the local park, where they were trapped by the fence. The killer was on a shadow, and couldn’t be seen. Pat, scared by the unknown, pulled out his gun and called:  “Put your hands up, drop any weapons, and come out of the shadow!”
Slowly, Sam spider came out and into the light. Pat was amazed that it was Sam! He had helped save the town! But before he could finish his thought, Sam bounded away, trying to escape. Pat shot at Sam.

After Sam was taken care of, his web was searched. The missing bugs were found, bound and gagged, but unharmed. Sam is in the hospital, suffering for what he did.
