Bug Adventures: Book 5: Preston's Home

Book 5: Preston’s Home
Whenever Preston Praying-Mantis would go to the park, he would see many different families.
The Dragonfly kids with the Dragonfly parents. Scott Slug and his little slugs. Everyone had the same parents but him.
His Dad was a strong ant. His Mom was a beautiful ladybug. But him. He was just a weird, adopted, no good Praying-Mantis. He had weird little claw things and hated himself.
One gloomy day at the park, a scary stranger walked up to Preston. “Hey kid” he said scarily. “You are so weird looking. I bet your parents hate you.” Preston began to cry, because he thought that it was true.
Preston didn't know what to do. The stranger was right! His parents didn't love him! He decided to run away so they couldn't find him. They wouldn't care. They hated him.
He went down to the little stream by the park and laid down. He would just hide here until his parents left.
Soon though, he got uncomfortable. He tried to move to get into a comfy position, but he slipped! He fell into the water with a splash and began floating down the river.
He splashed about some more, but soon got water in his mouth. He couldn't breath! He tried to call his parents, but he had water in his mouth and couldn't.
Soon, he drifted to shore, but got swept under a log. He was cold and it was getting dark. He could hear his parents calling for him, but he was too tired and too quiet to respond.
It took a long time before Preston’s parents came down and found him. He was wet, cold, and unhappy. They went home to clean him up.
At home, he was wrapped in a warm towel. His Mom made his favorite dinner and hand served it to him. They gave him lots of hugs and made him feel better.
Later that night, his Dad came to him. “Now Preston,” He started “You know we love you more than anything else. I wouldn't be able to live without you.”
Preston nodded, but still didn't believe him. “Then why am I so different? I’m awful!” But his Dad hugged him. “We chose you because you were different. We liked how beautiful you looked and knew that you were right for us.”
Preston just hugged his Dad closer. He knew now, that he was home.
